My novel is out in a few hours’ time, and I am powerless! I’ve
spent all day worrying that it’s not how I wanted it, that the cover is not as
it should be, that no one will like it… I’m worried that people won’t like the main
character, that she should have been stronger, or weaker, or… All I can do is
Those who have already read the book really enjoyed it. But
feedback from friends and family is hardly impartial. The proof reader also liked
it, but again, not a completely neutral opinion. All I can say for certain is
that, as a writer, I enjoyed writing it, and that it’s the kind of book I would
In the end, that’s about all you can do. Meanwhile, book 2
is finished, and currently out with beta readers for their feedback. Soon it
will be time to turn to the difficult third album book. And the process
will start all over again.
In the meantime, HALFWAY THERE is at 99cts for the launch, and
you can get it from all the vendors below.
Wish me luck!

Our first ad for HALFWAY THERE! I initially wanted to use the image on the book, but it just didn't work; although it is very evocative, it simply doesn't say enough about the story. However, I think it's perfect for this add.
It's out on Friday. Here's
the links for pre-orders:

After some final tweeks to the cover for HALFWAY THERE, we're done! I'm particularly glad that the designer, having been asked for cakes, chose chocolate cakes. Also, with less than two weeks to go I'm getting a bit antsy, so I'm grasping for any positive signs and/or serendipty. The coffee machine in the image is exactly like the one in the novel, but the designer didnt know. Now THAT'S got to be significant, right? Positive vibes...

The pre-order pages for HALFWAY THERE are now all there. Click on the links at the
bottom of this post.
I celebrated getting things done by taking a short trip to
the Cotswolds, the idyllic rural area of England where the SISTERHOOD OF THE
HALFWAYS is set. It really is beautiful:
Full disclosure: not my image! The ones I took were just too
pathetic to post.
The most notably beautiful villages in the area, such as the one in the photo above, are often buzzing with tourists, especially during the
summer months. Westwick is intended to be a little way off the beaten track,
not the kind of place where you get busloads of visitors. There are plenty of
villages like that too, and many of them a very similar to the place I imagined
for the novels.
I specifically didn’t
try to make Westwick too picturesque. I wanted it to be an ‘average’ sort of
place, albeit it a very desirable part of the world. Indeed, the demand for
housing in the area forms part of the plot of HALFWAY HOME, the second novel in
the series. I’ve just got to the very last scene of that novel today, although
there’s plenty of revisions to do.
In the meantime, I’m writing the first in a series of short
stories set in the village, and that should be ready in a couple of weeks, right
around the time that novel number 1 is launched. In the meantime, don’t forget
you can download the first ten chapters of HALFWAY THERE for any electronic
device by going to this page.
It’s called BookFunnel, and
it simply asks you whether you prefer an Amazon Kindle (mobi) file, a pdf, or
an ePub (for most other devices).
Anyway, as I said, the pre-order for HALFWAY THERE is now
available at all these vendors, including Google Play and Smashwords:
Best wishes, Stef

The SISTERHOOD OF THE HALFWAYS series is ready for (pre)launch.
The plan was always to wait until novel 2 was complete before publishing book
1. Well, I’m so close to having everything done on Halfway Home (#2) that the time has come to press the (pre)GO
button on the series.
The initial plan is to write seven novels set in the same
place. As you can imagine, I’ve been thinking about the project for quite a
long time, so even setting a date for the pre-launch of the series is daunting.
Thus far everything has been safely guarded on my laptop, right where I could
find it, and away from the eyes of everyone else. Whenever I wanted to make
changes, to a name, a storyline, some minor detail of dialogue, I could just do
When you’re writing about a whole group of people, a
community that evolves and develops over time, it’s inevitable that at some
point you will need to go back and tweak things. In my case, some minor
characters have been altered, so that their earlier appearances are in keeping
with how they will behave in later storylines.
Then there’s the village itself. In the first book, you can invent
the whole place according to the needs of the story. However, after that you
can’t go back and change things, so the geography of the village, plus the whole
look and feel of the setting, needs to be established with a degree of
precision. Also, since there are going to be seven novels, I want to make sure
that Westwick is the kind of village in which I am happy spending a lot of writing
But now comes the time to start the count-down. Halfway There, the first book in the
series, will be published on September 1st. It will be available as an ebook,
and as a paperback a few weeks later.
Here are some links to the vendors which already have a
listing for pre-orders:
I’ll post others (such as Smashwords and Google Play) when
they become available.
After that, I am planning to release a short story set in
the same village, followed by novel #2, Halfway
